Since San Antonio was founded in 1718, religion has been central to the story this city tells about itself. The purpose of this website is to document that story, and to serve as a resource for visitors, those that have moved here from elsewhere, and even those who have been here their whole lives!
"Religion in San Antonio" is a project started by Dr. Brian LePort, a Religious Studies Instructor at TMI Episcopal in San Antonio, TX. The purpose of this project is to create a database that documents San Antonio's diverse religions, past and present. Through the menu, you'll find an ever-evolving series of pages dedicated to the exploration of various religious traditions and how they've manifest as part of San Antonio's culture, history, politics, etc. The goal is to make this the first stop on the Internet for anyone interested in San Antonio's religions—whether they be a local, a tourist, a scholar of religion, an ethnographer, etc.
If there's an aspect of San Antonio's past or present that you'd like us to explore, please contact us using the page linked above. If you have pictures, pamphlets, or other material and/or digital artifacts you'd like to share, let us know! And thank you for taking a moment to visit and browse through what's available.
